Rajasthan Woman Rescues Family from Pond After Car Accident

Surta Parmar, a 38-year-old from Dharti Mata village in Rajasthan’s Dungarpur district, rescued a family after their car plunged into a 10-foot-deep pond. The accident occurred near her home; hearing the sound of the crash, Parmar ran toward the water rather than waiting for others to arrive. She found the vehicle submerged with three people inside, including an 11-month-old baby, and acted immediately to reach them.

Dharmesh Yadav, his wife Shilpa, and their infant son Drish were traveling to a wedding when their car reportedly hit a divider and veered into the pond. While a crowd of onlookers had gathered at the water's edge, many were filming the scene on their phones rather than entering the water. Hearing the baby crying from inside the vehicle prompted Parmar to wade into the pond despite the risks.

Her daughter, Ayushi, joined the rescue effort and brought ropes to assist. When they reached the car, they found the doors locked and the windows rolled up. Parmar managed to find a metal rod and used it to break a window to gain access to the interior. She pulled the baby out first, followed by his parents, persevering through the physical and emotional strain to bring all three safely to the shore.

The family was taken to a local hospital for emergency care. While baby Drish was treated and discharged shortly after, his parents had suffered multiple fractures that required surgery. They were eventually referred to Udaipur for further treatment, where they were reported to be out of danger.

Relatives of the Yadav family have since stated that the three might not have survived without Parmar's intervention. Parmar has remained modest about the rescue, speaking instead about the importance of human compassion. She reflected on her own life, noting that losing her parents at a young age gave her a strong desire to help those in vulnerable positions. Her actions that day have been recognized by her neighbors as a significant act of community support.
