Torrent Green Energy Private Limited announced the commissioning of 322 MWp of ground-mounted solar power projects across Maharashtra’s Nashik district on September 8, 2026. These decentralised installations were developed under the Mukhyamantri Saur Krushi Vahini Yojana 2.0, a state-led initiative designed to bolster the solar energy supply for agricultural needs. By feeding clean electricity into the grid, the projects support local farming communities while helping meet India’s broader renewable energy goals.

This development follows India’s ongoing commitment to expanding its renewable infrastructure. The Mukhyamantri Saur Krushi Vahini Yojana operates as part of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) scheme, launched in 2019 to integrate solar power into the agricultural sector. The program focuses on solarising agricultural electricity feeders, which enables decentralised plants to supply rural distribution networks directly. This shift away from conventional power sources is intended to lower costs for farmers, boosting their income and encouraging more sustainable practices.

Executing the project required coordination across 50 separate locations in 14 talukas within the Nashik district. This makes it one of the most geographically diverse agricultural solarisation efforts in the region. Under 25-year power purchase agreements, the installations will supply electricity to the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), providing a consistent, long-term energy source for rural communities. The rollout is intended to improve overall grid efficiency and cut down on distribution losses across the state.

There are economic and environmental advantages to generating power closer to where it is used. By placing these plants near agricultural hubs, the projects can provide reliable daytime electricity, a factor essential for farm productivity. This transition toward renewables also mirrors global moves to address climate change through sustainable energy. These sites contribute to Torrent Power’s wider operational capacity of 6.66 GW, reflecting the company's focus on expanding its renewable portfolio.

Torrent Green Energy intends to continue growing its renewable energy assets in line with India’s clean energy targets.
